Payroll & HRIS Specialist
Position Purpose
Hiram College is seeking a full-time Payroll & HRIS Specialist responsible for the timely and accurate processing of all College payrolls for faculty, staff, and students. This role supports payroll operations, HRIS data integrity, and customer service across campus.
Key Accountabilities
- Payroll Processing - Process monthly, biweekly, and student payrolls in Banner.
- Student Employment Setup - Create student employee records, including job setup, taxes, and direct deposit.
- Timesheet Review - Review and verify student timecards and biweekly staff timesheets.
- Data Entry - Enter payroll data for student and staff payrolls.
- Tax Forms & Compliance - Assist students with tax forms; maintain records per IRS and College policies.
- Payroll Calculations - Calculate overtime, deductions, bonuses, and adjustments.
- Tax Reporting - Assist with quarterly and annual payroll tax filings.
- New Hire Reporting - Submit required New Hire Reports.
- Calendars & Procedures - Maintain payroll calendars and procedures manual.
- Garnishments - Process wage garnishment orders.
- HRIS Maintenance - Maintain employee data in Banner; ensure compliance with laws and policies.
- Reporting - Generate ad hoc reports for HR, Payroll, and Finance.
- Customer Service - Provide timely support to faculty, staff, and students.
- Collaboration - Work closely with HR and support the Business Office through cross‑training.
- Audit Support - Assist with payroll‑related audits.
- Other Duties - Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Skills & Knowledge
- Banner experience preferred.
- Customer service skills with professional communication.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Data accuracy and verification skills.
- Tax & accounting basics.
- Microsoft Office proficiency, especially Excel.
- Confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
- FERPA awareness.
Experience
- Two years of payroll experience required.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- High school diploma required.
