Job Summary:

The Benevis Payroll Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the payroll function, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly, incentive, and off-cycle payrolls. This leadership role is responsible for developing and maintaining multi-state payroll policies, processes, and controls that support accurate wage, deduction, and tax obligations while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and reporting requirements. 

 

 

Responsibilities:

Core Responsibilities: 

 

  • Partner with company leaders to ensure timekeeping and timecard processes are accurate and completed on time. 
  • Create and implement payroll policies and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy. 
  • Partner closely with HR, Accounting, and Finance to coordinate payroll-related activities, including team member changes, general ledger reporting, benefit and deduction administration, and payroll reconciliations. 
  • Configure and maintain payroll systems, recommend enhancements, and ensure payroll processes within the system are accurate, efficient, and well controlled. 
  • Prepare payroll reports and analysis for company leaders and internal partners to support payroll administration, budgeting, forecasting, and decision-making. 
  • Provide a high level of customer service by responding promptly to team members regarding payroll, taxes, and deductions while maintaining confidentiality. 
  • Hire, train, and provide day-to-day leadership to the payroll team, including coaching, mentoring, and performance support to achieve high standards of accuracy and service. 
  • Ensure payroll records are accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with company standards and recordkeeping requirements. 
  • Analyze payroll metrics and trends and provide reporting to leadership. 
  • Support year-end activities, including W-2s and 1099 processing.  

 

Compliance and Regulatory Oversight 

 

  • Conduct regular audits of payroll processes, records, and related controls to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations. 
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, including tax reporting, wage and hour requirements, and other payroll-related obligations. 
  • Stay updated on changes in tax laws, labor laws, and other regulations affecting payroll.  
  • Serve as the primary liaison for payroll-related audits and work collaboratively with internal and external auditors to provide required documentation and support. 
Qualifications:
  • Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, accounting, or related field. 
  • Certified Payroll professional (CPP) certification preferred.  
  • Experience: Minimum of five years of progressive payroll experience, including payroll administration, compliance, reporting, and team leadership. 
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with payroll software (ADP preferred) and Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting. 
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret data and resolve discrepancies. 
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with team members and key stakeholders. 
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep knowledge of payroll laws, regulations, tax requirements, and compliance standards.
