Oversees the entire payroll function and staff while ensuring timely, accurate, error-free and legally compliant payroll processing by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures compliance with all payroll related policies of the Gila River Gaming Ordinance, Gila River Gaming Enterprises policies and procedures, State of Arizona Gaming Compact, State/Federal Tax and wage-hour laws, and State Unemployment Law.
Maintains and updates time clock and payroll system master files on a timely and accurate basis.
Maintains updated knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to all payroll subjects and their relationship with employment matters.
Provides ad-hoc reporting using Reportsmith and other software applications utilized by the enterprise.
Works as a direct liaison with Executives, Directors, and the Board of Directors regarding employee compensation methodologies and strategy.
Provides assistance and counsel to the controller on payroll and related subjects.
Performs data entry related to taxes, direct deposit, pay rate changes, coverage elections, arrears payroll, and any error refunds.
Evaluates and suggests updates to payroll related policies and procedures.
Performs reviews of biweekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports consisting of Master Control Register, Payroll Department Summary, Payroll Register, Personnel Change, unused deductions, Labor Distribution, PTO/Sick Accrual Spreadsheet, State Claim Summary, statement of deposits and filings, wage and tax register, tip allocation, benefits register, contractual agreements, and W-2 and Earnings Summary.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises multiple employees with varying job duties. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in business/management/finance/accounting preferred. Five (5) years management experience in payroll, preferably in a casino/gaming environment or five (5) years of increasingly responsible management experience in payroll related roles.
