Position Summary

The Payroll Manager plays a critical leadership role in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations for the organization. This position oversees payroll systems, data integrity, and process optimization while providing direct supervision and development of payroll staff.

The Payroll Manager collaborates closely with Human Resources, Accounting, and organizational leaders to support system enhancements, strengthen internal controls, and align payroll operations with broader financial and organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, supervise, and develop payroll staff, ensuring high performance, accountability, and timely payroll processing.
  • Manage accurate execution of regular and off-cycle payrolls, including wages, overtime, deductions, and payroll taxes.
  • Prepare and review payroll-related account reconciliations, resolving discrepancies and ensuring data integrity.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and compliant payroll records, including timekeeping and employee documentation.
  • Evaluate payroll, benefits, and tax processes to identify opportunities for efficiency, accuracy, and risk reduction.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on payroll, deductions, and timekeeping, providing guidance and issue resolution.
  • Support the design, implementation, and maintenance of payroll systems, policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Train managers and staff on time entry, payroll deadlines, and compliance requirements.
  • Conduct payroll audits and prepare reports for management, auditors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with HR and Accounting to ensure payroll activities align with organizational policies and financial objectives.
  • Safeguard confidential payroll and employee information with professionalism and discretion.
Perform additional duties as needed to support departmental and organizational operations

Experience and Skills
Education & Credentials

Bachelor's Degree in a business-related field or equivalent practical experience preferred. CPP certification a plus, not required

Experience & Skills
  • Supervisory experience with direct oversight, coaching, and performance management.
  • 3+ years of payroll experience with a degree or CPP; 5+ years with equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency with payroll systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex payroll issues.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and compliance.
  • Excellent organizational, problem?solving, and time?management abilities in a fast?paced environment.
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of data protection and confidentiality requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
