PAYROLL MANAGER
The University of St. Thomas, a Catholic liberal arts institution in Houston, Texas (UST), invites applications for the position of Payroll Manager.
SUMMARY
The Payroll Manager oversees the administration and processing of payroll for the University, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations for faculty, staff, and student employees. This position ensures compliance with federal and state regulations while supporting the University's mission and commitment to service excellence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely processing of all payroll cycles, including regular, supplemental, and student payrolls.
- Maintains and optimizes payroll systems, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
- Ensures compliance with federal and state laws, including FLSA and IRS regulations, and oversees tax filings and W-2 preparation.
- Coordinates payroll deductions such as benefits, retirement contributions, and garnishments.
- Serves as a resource for payroll-related questions and resolves issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Develops and updates payroll procedures to improve efficiency and compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field is required
- 5+ years of progressive payroll experience required
- 3+ years of supervisory or lead experience preferred
- Experience in higher education (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of payroll laws and regulations, including FLSA and IRS requirements
- Experience with HRIS/payroll systems; ADP Workforce Now experience preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
