Ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll for all employees, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and company policies. Responsible for managing payroll operations, troubleshooting issues, and working closely with HR, Finance, and other departments to ensure smooth payroll delivery.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

Leadership: Oversees the payroll functions, provides strategic direction to the department and manages a team.

Payroll Processing: Lead and manage the end-to-end payroll process ensuring accurate and timely payment of employee salaries, wages, bonuses, and deductions.

Compliance & Reporting: Ensure payroll compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Produce and maintain accurate payroll records and reports, including tax filings, benefit deductions, garnishments, and other statutory deductions.

System Management: Payroll configuration, updates, and troubleshooting. Manage scheduling and ensure payroll synchronization with employee shift data.

Data Integrity & Audits: Regularly audit payroll data to ensure accuracy, address discrepancies, and ensure that employee records are up-to-date in both systems.

Collaboration & Support: Partner with HR and Finance departments to resolve payroll-related issues. Provide guidance and support to employees regarding payroll inquiries and discrepancies.

Tax Filing & Reporting: Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely payroll tax filings (federal, state, and local), and ensure the company’s compliance with all applicable tax laws.

Payroll System Improvements: Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of payroll processing.

Employee Records Management: Ensure accurate employee data entry into payroll systems and work with employees and HR to update any changes to compensation, benefits, or tax withholding as needed.

Training & Development: Train and mentor payroll team members, ensuring a high level of knowledge and proficiency in payroll best practices and system usage.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience required. 

  • Payroll experience in healthcare and physician compensation calculations and related components preferred. 

  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws and regulations, including federal, state, and local tax laws preferred.

  • Experience with multi-state payroll processing preferred.

  • Experience with advanced features and configurations in Workday (such as reporting and integrations) preferred.

  • Knowledge of union payroll processes preferred. 

License/Certification

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred.

Skills/Knowledge and Abilities

  • Expertise with payroll processing platforms.  Background that includes Workday and Qgenda are preferred but not required.

  • Proficiency in advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, lookups, indexes.

  • Strong understanding of payroll processes, systems, and tools.

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in all tasks.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve payroll-related issues quickly and efficiently.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

  • Strong communication skills to effectively work with employees and cross-functional teams.

  • High level of discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
