Paper Trails is hiring a part-time Payroll Assistant to join our team in Kennebunk. We're a full-service payroll, HR, and human capital management firm - recognized as a "Best Place to Work in Maine" - serving small and mid-sized businesses across Maine and New England.

What you'll do:

  • Answer and direct incoming calls in a professional, friendly way
  • Manage our daily payroll distribution (printing, packing, mailing)
  • Help clients with basic payroll system questions - report requests, password resets, navigation, light troubleshooting
  • Enter and maintain employee data: new hires, pay rate changes, direct deposits, W-4 updates, and more
  • Assist with PTO/accrual reconciliations, workers' comp audit reports, and monthly reporting
  • Support administrative projects and general office operations

What we're looking for:

  • 2+ years in an administrative or office support role
  • Strong attention to detail and a knack for accurate data work
  • Excellent communication skills and a genuine customer-service mindset
  • Comfort learning new software, including modern AI tools
  • Experience with payroll or HR systems is a plus, not a requirement - we'll train the right person
  • Background in accounting, business, or HR a plus
