Kforce has a client that is seeking a Payroll Operations Accountant in Sterling, VA.
Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to support payroll processing and accounting operations. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll administration while assisting with reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close activities, and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll:
- Process biweekly or semi-monthly payroll for salaried and hourly employees
- Review payroll data for accuracy, including pay rates, deductions, taxes, and benefit elections
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
- Respond to employee payroll questions and resolve discrepancies
- Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing
- Maintain payroll records and supporting documentation
- Prepare payroll-related journal entries and general ledger postings
- Reconcile payroll, benefits, and tax accounts
- Assist with month-end and year-end close activities
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed
- Prepare account reconciliations and variance analysis
- Assist with financial audits by providing documentation and schedules
- Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with company policies and accounting standards
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required
- 3+ years of payroll experience
- 2+ years of accounting or general ledger experience
- Experience with payroll software and ERP systems
- Strong understanding of payroll laws, payroll taxes, and accounting principles
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
