Description
Payroll Operations Specialist
Schedule: Monday – Friday, Onsite (5 Days per Week) Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Operations Specialist to support a high-volume payroll department. This role is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of employee payroll while ensuring compliance with company policies, government regulations, and internal controls.
The ideal candidate has experience processing multi-state payroll, working with large organizations, utilizing SAP or similar payroll systems, and analyzing payroll data in Excel. Strong analytical, organizational, and customer service skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Process payroll accurately and meet all established deadlines.
Ensure compliance with company policies, government regulations, and payroll procedures.
Maintain the confidentiality and security of all payroll-related information.
Review payroll audit reports and coordinate necessary corrections.
Research and resolve employee payroll inquiries in a timely manner.
Interpret and apply labor agreements and payroll requirements for various employee groups, including union employees.
Maintain payroll records and utilize special processing methods to minimize payroll errors.
Follow SOX-compliant payroll processes and internal controls.
Assist with payroll system testing, special projects, and process improvements.
Create and maintain payroll process documentation and standard operating procedures.
Analyze payroll business processes and recommend improvements to increase efficiency.
Analyze large volumes of payroll data using Microsoft Excel, including formulas and macros.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in one of the following:
High-volume, multi-state payroll processing
Payroll operations
Accounting
Human Resources with payroll responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using SAP Payroll or a similar payroll system.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience working within a large corporate environment.
Required Skills
High-volume payroll processing experience.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
Experience working with payroll systems (SAP preferred).
Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) and union payroll processing.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Ability to explain complex payroll information to employees at all organizational levels.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
