Payroll Specialist - Boston, MA (Hybrid)
We are seeking candidates for a Payroll Specialist position with a leading telecommunications company located in Boston, MA. The Payroll Specialist position will be responsible for supporting accurate and timely processing of payroll while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position works closely with HR, Finance, Accounting, and Payroll leadership to resolve payroll issues, maintain data integrity, and help drive continuous improvements in payroll processes. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of payroll experience within professional services.
This is a 6+ month contract position that will pay $50-55/hr (depending on experience) within a 40-hour workweek. This position offers a hybrid work model, onsite 3 days per week in their Boston office and remote 2 days per week.
Responsibilities:
Support the end-to-end processing of biweekly U.S. payroll, including multi-state, exempt, and non-exempt employee populations, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
Review payroll inputs for accuracy, including new hires, terminations, pay changes, timecards, and special earnings.
Process off-cycle payrolls, corrections, and retroactive pay adjustments as needed.
Respond to employee payroll inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
Maintain data accuracy within payroll systems, including ADP Portal, ADP Vantage, and Equifax Unemployment.
Perform reconciliations and audits to ensure payroll data integrity and accuracy.
Ensure payroll processes comply with federal, state, and local wage and hour regulations.
Research and recommend system enhancements and process improvements to increase payroll efficiency.
Support internal and external payroll audits, reconciliations, and internal control activities.
Process garnishments, levies, and other involuntary deductions.
Maintain accurate payroll documentation and records.
Assist with payroll tax reconciliations and coordinate with ADP Tax Services.
Support audits related to payroll, compensation, and benefits.
Prepare ad hoc payroll reports and data analysis for internal stakeholders.
Assist with system testing related to payroll updates, regulatory changes, and enhancements.
Identify data issues and collaborate with HRIT or IT teams to resolve them.
Maintain and update payroll process documentation and procedures.
Support payroll-related projects, system implementations, and process improvements.
Participate in cross-functional initiatives impacting payroll operations.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
3+ years of payroll experience within professional services.
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred.
Experience with ADP payroll systems from both a payroll and system administration perspective.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and payroll systems (preferably ADP).
Experience working in a shared services environment and a strong understanding of HR processes.
Experience managing multi-state payroll reporting.
Familiarity with expatriate taxation and international payroll tax guidelines strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of payroll processing, tax compliance, and HR compliance.
Solid understanding of general ledger entries related to payroll.
Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills.
Strong written and verbal communication and customer service skills.
