Payroll Specialist (Contract) LHH Recruitment Solutions is looking for a Payroll Specialist for a client in the Cincinnati Ohio area. This is a contract/ temporary assignment that will help cover a medical leave for 2-4 months and oversee complex payroll operations and ensure accurate, timely processing for a multi-state workforce. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage competing deadlines, and a high level of discretion when handling sensitive employee information. The ideal candidate is adaptable, service-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. This position will pay between $28 and $35/hr. depending on experience and education. Job Duties
  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for a multi-state employee population on a weekly basis.
  • Review and enter payroll data including variable compensation, overtime, and benefit-related deductions.
  • Audit timekeeping records and payroll inputs to ensure accuracy prior to final processing.
  • Perform payroll reconciliations and validate results through system reporting.
  • Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations and withholding requirements.
  • Maintain and update employee payroll records, including tax elections and direct deposit details.
  • Configure payroll system settings for new locations and applicable tax jurisdictions.
  • Administer wage garnishments, child support orders, and other required withholdings.
  • Prepare and distribute reports related to retirement contributions and other payroll deductions.
  • Support accounting processes by reconciling payroll activity to the general ledger and assisting with month-end and quarter-end close.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure timely payroll submissions.
  • Respond to employee inquiries related to pay, deductions, and payroll processes.
  • Generate recurring and ad hoc payroll reports as needed.
  • Assist with onboarding activities by setting up new hires within the payroll system.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee records and payroll data at all times.
  • Provide backup support for benefits-related functions and assist with additional administrative tasks as needed.
Requirements:
  • 3-5 years of payroll processing experience, ideally supporting multiple locations or jurisdictions
  • Strong understanding of payroll procedures, tax regulations, and compliance requirements
  • Experience with account reconciliation and familiarity with general ledger processes
  • Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze and interpret data.
  • Proven ability to manage deadlines and prioritize workload in a high-volume environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Professional communication skills with a customer-focused approach
  • Experience with payroll systems such as Paylocity or similar platforms preferred.
  • Associate degree or payroll certification (CPP or FPC) preferred.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.
