Hilltop Holdings is seeking a Payroll Specialist in Dallas, Texas. This is a hybrid position based in Dallas, TX, requiring onsite presence four days per week, with the option to work remotely one day per week. Under the direction of the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the assigned payroll service delivery group. This role includes reconciling accruals; processing timekeeping adjustments, employee changes, and terminations; and ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing. Additional key responsibilities include maintaining process documentation, generating reports, auditing of records, supporting payroll procedures, and ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal wage laws.

  • High School degree plus at least 3 years equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines.
  • Must have strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while paying close attention to details.

  • Must be able to effectively work with several internal and external partners.
  • Ability to think independently and stay abreast of payroll trends, legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Good knowledge of federal regulations relating to payroll such as Fair Labor Standards Act, Social Security and Federal taxes. Advanced knowledge of fringe benefits and payroll taxes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Process bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll, manage workflow and process bi-weekly and semi-monthly timesheets to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely.
  • Process payroll changes: Pay changes, Job changes, terminations, internal transfers, garnishments, manual checks, leave request, various payroll deductions etc.
  • Responsible to be the backup & cross train for other positions within the payroll department.
  • Implement adequate controls to achieve an error free payroll and detect discrepancies before they appear on the employees paycheck.
  • Generate a variety of routine and ad-hoc reports relating to payroll, time and paid leave etc.
  • Other duties as assigned
