We are seeking a detail-oriented and growth-minded Payroll Specialist / Payroll Accountant to join a collaborative payroll team supporting a multi-state workforce of approximately 1,100 employees. This is a confidential replacement search for an organization that processes payroll fully in-house.

This role is ideal for someone with strong payroll accounting knowledge who wants long-term growth potential into a future Payroll Director-level position.

Key Responsibilities

• Process end-to-end, in-house payroll for employees across multiple states
• Ensure accurate payroll calculations including earnings, deductions, garnishments, taxes, and adjustments
• Manage and reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts
• Handle multi-state payroll tax compliance, filings, and payroll tax research
• Partner with HR and Accounting to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance
• Support month-end and year-end payroll processes including W-2 preparation and audits
• Maintain payroll records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive employee information
• Assist with process improvements and payroll best practices

Qualifications

• 3+ years of payroll processing and payroll accounting experience
• Strong multi-state payroll experience required
• Payroll tax experience required
• ADP experience required
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field strongly preferred
• Understanding of payroll reconciliations, journal entries, and payroll accounting processes
• High attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Desire and potential to grow into future leadership opportunities
