Job Title: Payroll Specialist (HR Generalist)

Status: Full-Time Salaried Exempt

Salary Range: $50,000 to $60,000

What You Will Do

As a Payroll Specialist, you will serve as a trusted advisor to assigned client accounts by providing payroll administration and support.

Responsibilities include:

  • Processing multi-client payroll accurately and on schedule, including regular, off-cycle, and bonus runs
  • Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and wage and hour laws (FLSA)
  • Managing payroll setup, deductions, garnishments, benefits contributions, and year-end reporting (W-2s, 1099s)
  • Reconciling payroll data, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining accurate payroll records
  • Advising clients on payroll policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Staying current on payroll tax law changes and multi-state payroll requirements
  • Partnering with HR and finance teams to support onboarding, terminations, and benefits administration as they relate to payroll
  • Conducting payroll audits to support client compliance efforts
  • Building strong client relationships through proactive communication and responsiveness
  • Supporting process improvements and payroll system implementations or transitions
  • Traveling locally to client sites 2–4 days per week (no overnight travel required) to support onsite collaboration, meetings, and project execution

What We're Looking For

  • Associate's degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field (equivalent experience considered)
  • 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, ideally supporting multiple clients or entities
  • Strong knowledge of payroll-related employment laws including FLSA, and familiarity with FMLA, ADA, and other applicable regulations
  • Hands-on experience with payroll systems/platforms (e.g., ADP, Paychex, Paycom, Gusto, or similar)
  • Experience with multi-state payroll tax compliance and reporting
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in high-volume, deadline-driven work
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and client accounts in a fast-paced consulting environment
  • Payroll certification (CPP or FPC) preferred
