Payroll Specialist
LHH is seeking an experience Payroll Specialist to join our client's team in Jessup, MD. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of full-cycle payroll experience, strong attention to detail, and the willingness to support other HR functions as needed.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Process bi-weekly payroll to ensure employees are paid each pay date accurately and on time.
- Ensures employee paid time off balances are up to date, maintained and accurate.
- Administers changes in payroll including benefits and pay changes or wage garnishments.
- Understands and applies all rules of the union contract including mandated pay and paid time off changes.
- Ensures all payroll related processes are accurate and timely such as W-2s, reporting, pay changes, wage garnishments, etc.
- Completes tasks for all new hires and terminations including payroll updates.
- Submits reports and contributions related to payroll to all union organizations.
Recruiting/Hiring/Onboarding
- Assists HR Director and managers with hiring needs including posting jobs, coordinating interviews and updating job descriptions.
- Completes orientation/onboarding activities with all new hires.
- Conducts or acquires background checks, physicals and drug screening for applicants and employees as applicable.
Employee Recognition
- Co-managing the Acme Connect employee engagement group.
- Manages the AAA employee recognition program including marketing the program to all employees to encourage participation.
- Managing monthly birthday celebrations.
Human Resources
- Managing and processing quarterly random drug screenings.
- Assist with implementation of union contract details and requirements.
- Collaborates with the HR Director to develop and implement new HR initiatives.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Experience using ADP Workforce Now.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including interacting with internal customers with a positive attitude and diplomacy.
- Comfortable with speaking to a small group or conducting training to a group.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Is proactive and takes initiative.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and strong computer and Excel skills.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field strongly preferred, OR additional experience in a Payroll or Human Resources job may be substituted.
- At least three years' experience processing payroll.
- Experience processing payroll in ADP is required.
- Experience with unions preferred.

Pay Details: $60,000.00 to $65,000.00 per year
