Payroll Specialist (Temporary)
Location: Princeton, NJ (Hybrid)
Schedule: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Duration: Temporary (with potential for extension or temp-to-perm)
Position Overview
A nonprofit organization based in Princeton, NJ is seeking a Payroll Specialist to provide immediate coverage due to a leadership transition. This role will focus on ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing across a multi-state employee population.
Key Responsibilities
Process semi-monthly payroll for approximately 70+ employees (full-time and part-time)
Manage payroll for employees across multiple states, ensuring compliance with varying tax regulations (NJ, NY, NC, GA, IN, MO, CA, etc.)
Maintain and execute payroll in ADP Workforce Now and support related processes in Sage (GL system)
Ensure accuracy of payroll data, including earnings, deductions, and employee classifications
Apply strong knowledge of payroll tax codes and multi-state compliance requirements
Perform payroll reconciliations and assist with related reporting as needed
Work heavily in Excel to support payroll calculations, tracking, and reporting
Partner with finance and HR to resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries
Support continuity of payroll operations during leadership transition, ensuring deadlines are consistently met
Qualifications
3+ years of hands-on payroll processing experience
Strong working knowledge of multi-state payroll and tax compliance
Experience with ADP Workforce Now preferred
Familiarity with Sage or other general ledger systems preferred
Advanced Excel skills
Experience working in a nonprofit environment is a plus
High attention to detail and ability to meet tight payroll deadlines
Additional Details
Hybrid schedule (2-3 days onsite in Princeton; potentially more onsite initially)
Immediate need with strong preference for candidates available to start quickly
Pay Details: $35.00 to $40.00 per hour
