The Payroll Supervsior oversees and executes Evergreen’s end-to-end payroll operation and directly supervises the Payroll Specialist. This role serves as the company’s primary payroll subject matter expert, with accountability for accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing; payroll controls; payroll systems; reporting; audit readiness; and continuity planning. This position is expected to operate independently in day-to-day payroll execution while assigning, training, reviewing, and developing the Payroll Specialist to support coverage, accuracy, and segregation of duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise, coach, and develop Payroll Administration staff, ensuring appropriate coverage, cross-training, and accountability.
- Oversee accurate and timely end-to-end payroll processing, including payroll preparation, data validation, timecard review, audits, issue resolution, and final processing.
- Manage payroll workflows, procedures, reporting, and internal controls to improve efficiency, accuracy, compliance, and business continuity.
- Serve as the payroll subject matter expert for UKG Pro and UKG Ready, including system configuration, reporting, testing, enhancements, workflows, notifications, earnings, deductions, accruals, and timekeeping rules.
- Partner with Human Resources, Benefits, Finance, IT, managers, vendors, auditors, and consultants to support payroll operations, system integrations, benefit deductions, accruals, reporting, and organizational initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage and hour, tax, labor, garnishment, and reporting requirements, including quarterly filings, state job site reports, year-end processing, and W-2 review.
- Develop, maintain, and communicate payroll policies, procedures, training, and support materials to improve manager and associate understanding of payroll processes and systems.
- Maintain proactive communication with leadership regarding payroll risks, issues, compliance matters, process improvements, and operational needs.
- Provide backup payroll support as needed and ensure documentation, cross-training, and coverage plans support continuity of payroll operations.
- Deliver a “WOW” experience in all associate, manager, vendor, and business partner interactions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Performance Expectations:
- Perform all actions in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Convictions of EHL.
- Manage the department to meet or exceed department productivity, production and/or financial metrics.
- Provide a “WOW” experience and effectively communicate with associates, clients, partners, and vendors via phone, written communication, and/or in person.
- Set clear expectations for associates and support their personal and professional growth through one-on-one meetings held on a semi-monthly or more frequent basis and annual performance reviews with all direct reports.
- Address performance issues in a timely manner and document incidents.
- Anticipate staffing issues, plan for staffing changes in advance, and complete recruiting activities monthly for branches, or as needed for departments in order to hire high quality associates to fully staff the team.
- Host regular and timely communication with associates.
- Continuously explore, adopt, and integrate approved AI tools into daily work to improve productivity, accuracy, scalability, and workflow efficiency, while ensuring compliance with company policies, security standards, and data protection requirements.
- Understand the responsibilities of production and operations and act as a liaison between functions to develop collaborative team relationships so that loans close on time, and as promised.
- Maintain basic knowledge of Evergreen’s HR, Onboarding, Payroll, and Accounting policies and systems and proactively consult applicable department when dealing with issues.
- Exude a positive attitude, mentor associates, set a good example (this includes appropriate dress and demeanor).
- Perform all actions in accordance with the policies and procedures of the company.
- Have knowledge about Evergreen’s mortgage processes and products in order to answer questions and support staff.
Specific Skills/ Knowledge/ Abilities Required for Position:
- Extensive experience processing end-to-end payroll in UKG Pro and UKG Ready, including payroll administration, timekeeping, auditing, reporting, and year-end processing.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, garnishments, and payroll compliance requirements, including multi-state payroll administration.
- Demonstrated experience with payroll tax reporting, regulatory filings, W-2 preparation, payroll reconciliations, and internal audit controls.
- Proven ability to supervise, coach, train, and develop staff while fostering a collaborative, customer-focused team environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to identify issues, resolve discrepancies, and implement process improvements.
- Experience managing payroll system implementations, upgrades, integrations, testing, and process optimization initiatives.
- Advanced reporting and data analysis skills, including proficiency with UKG Business Intelligence tools and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet critical deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively partner with associates, management, vendors, auditors, and regulatory agencies.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service and continuous improvement.
- Exercise good judgment and strong character, motivated, hard working.
- Ability to work well with fellow associates, clients and vendors.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires all forms of dexterity and mobility throughout the shift, which may include extended periods of sitting and/or standing. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, twist, climb or balance, stoop, kneel crouch or crawl.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to speak and hear, lift and carry up to twenty-five pounds (25 lbs.) or occasionally more.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, occasionally noisy environment.
- May be required to drive for business purposes and if so, must hold a driver’s license in good standing and maintain personal auto insurance in compliance with EHL’s Auto Insurance policy.
Compensation:
The base annual range rate for this position is $59k - $113k, depending on a number of factors including location and experience. If applicable, associate may be eligible for per-file incentives, commissions, bonuses or other variable earnings as determined upon hire.

Basic Life/AD&D insurance for eligible associates as well as a Short-term Disability benefit are provided by Evergreen. Associates are automatically enrolled in Evergreen’s 401(k) plan. Personal Time Off (PTO) of up to 13.34 hours may be earned monthly and associates may enjoy 9 paid holidays each year.
