Akima, LLC has operating companies with employees in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and international locations. Currently we have 45 companies with over 10,000 employees. The Payroll Tax Accountant has responsibility for all tax related functions within the payroll department.


Responsibilities


+ Applicants for the position of payroll tax accountant should expect to perform the duties, tasks, and responsibilities stated in the job description for the position below:

+ Preparing federal, state, unemployment insurance, occupational privilege, workers compensation and local withholding tax returns. Responsible for remitting tax payments to appropriate taxing jurisdictions to ensure accurate reporting and allowing minimal assessments, penalties and interest.

+ Supporting payroll personnel on withholding tax matters. This includes providing guidance on reciprocity agreements between the states, manual check entry, and withholding tax calculations.

+ Must be knowledgeable in registrations for state/local withholding and unemployment.

+ Review quarterly reports and amendments.

+ Coordinate with 3rd party vendor for filing returns, amendments and related tax payments.

+ Research local withholding tax requirements.

+ Request and test the functionality of new local withholding tax codes for the payroll system.

+ Responsible for updating the Federal Tax Tables, SDI/EE SUTA and Local Tax Table annually and as needed.

+ Assist in the testing of State Withholding Tax tables annually.

+ Work with IT for application of Costpoint tax updates to include review of release notes to understand and highlight changes that impact payroll tax processing; preparation of scenarios and analysis of test results, validation and User Acceptance Testing sign-off in accordance with deadlines established in the annual Costpoint Tax Update schedule.

+ Audit the wage and withholding information for employees to ensure W-2 reporting is accurate.

+ Verify information, investigate and resolve problems pertaining to payroll tax issues completely, accurately, and within a timely manner.

+ Assist employees, supervisors, and HR with inquiries via phone and/or email. Research, analyze, and answer these inquiries completely, accurately, and within a timely manner.

+ Analyze, calculate, and incorporate changes for various excel spreadsheets and utilize payroll software to ensure accurate payroll tax reporting.

+ Perform special payroll tax projects as assigned from the Payroll Tax Manager.

+ Assist with Internal, External, State Agencies and Governmental Auditors.

+ Determine, plan and execute improvement of procedures in relation to payroll tax to enhance, promote effectiveness, and efficiency.

+ Handle system improvements as new business prerequisites arise.

+ Ability to research and understand tax laws and then implement changes and additions to the system.

+ Coordinate with accounting and treasury departments to ensure proper accounting or payroll transactions.

+ Assist HRIS team with proper input of Federal and State W-4 data as well as local jurisdictions.


Qualifications


+ 10+ years of payroll tax/accounting experience.

+ Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent technical training.

+ Experience in an in-house payroll environment.

+ A comprehensive understanding of payroll tax and the statutory environment, which will include local, federal, and multi state tax regulations.

+ Superlative ability to read, comprehend and make analysis of intricate regulatory payroll tax information.

+ Excellent project management and time management skills.

+ Advanced MS Excel skills.

+ Strong communication written and verbal communications skills.

+ Demonstrated ability to handle numerous tasks simultaneously and ability to adapt in a fast-paced deadline driven environment.

+ Must be a tactical thinker, result oriented and a team player with sound business intelligence.

+ Experience with accounting systems.


Desired Qualifications:


+ · Deltek Costpoint experience desired.

+ · CPP designation preferred.

+ · Ceridian and/or ADP experience desired.
