GM"s In-House Hardware Initiative: Krishna leads the PCB design team at GM, part of an initiative to bring hardware design in-house for SDV space and SDV 2.0 core modules, moving away from full supplier reliance.
PCB Design Process: Krishna"s team receives schematics, performs component placement, routing, signal/power integrity analysis, and design rule checks, collaborating with internal thermal, mechanical, SI, and PI teams before releasing Gerber/ODB files to contract manufacturers.
Specific Role Requirements: Krishna is looking for a dedicated PCB design engineer, not a general hardware designer, focusing on board-level design, routing, and ensuring SI/PI.
Experience Levels Needed: Two roles are open: a junior engineer (4-5 years experience) for less complex boards, and an enginee to lead projects end-to-end, including high-speed, high-density, and RF designs.
Tooling Requirement: Mentor Graphics experience is a critical must-have for immediate productivity, as GM uses it, and the learning curve for those familiar with Altium or Cadence is not feasible given current project timelines.
Degree Flexibility: For contract roles, Krishna is open to candidates without an engineering degree if they possess significant practical experience in PCB design, as recruiters often filter out such resumes for direct hire.
Candidate Profile Challenge: Krishna notes that many resumes show candidates who have done PCB design as part of a broader role (e.g., managing other tasks, librarian duties) rather than having core, in-depth experience exclusively in board layout, especially for complex designs.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr.
