Physical Education (PE) Assistant
Job Summary: The Physical Education (PE) Assistant supports the Physical Education Teacher in providing a safe, engaging, and well-organized learning environment that promotes students' physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyles. The PE Assistant assists with daily instructional activities, supervises students during physical education classes and school events, prepares equipment, and helps maintain a safe and orderly gymnasium and outdoor activity areas. Key Responsibilities: - Assist the Physical Education Teacher with daily lesson implementation and student activities.
- Prepare, distribute, organize, and store athletic equipment and instructional materials before and after classes.
- Supervise students during indoor and outdoor physical education activities to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
- Reinforce school-wide expectations for student conduct, sportsmanship, and respect.
- Monitor students during transitions to and from physical education classes.
- Assist students individually or in small groups as directed by the Physical Education Teacher.
- Help modify activities and provide support for students with varying physical abilities or accommodations.
- Observe and report student injuries, behavioral concerns, or safety issues to the Physical Education Teacher or school administration immediately.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the gymnasium, equipment storage areas, fields, and other activity spaces.
- Inspect equipment regularly and report damaged or unsafe equipment.
- Assist with setting up and breaking down equipment for athletic events, field days, testing, assemblies, and special school activities.
- Provide supervision during recess, field trips, and other school-sponsored events as assigned.
- Support emergency drills and follow all school safety procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students and staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Physical Education Teacher, Principal, or designee.
Qualifications: - High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree or college coursework in education, kinesiology, recreation, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with children in an educational, recreational, athletic, or childcare setting preferred.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Must successfully pass all required criminal background checks and meet all state and district employment requirements.
Physical Demands: - Ability to demonstrate physical activities and exercises.
- Ability to sit, stand, or move for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and carry sports equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for activities and sports events.
Work Environment: - Some evening or weekend hours may be required for after-school sports activities or events.
- Must be able to supervise students during indoor and outdoor activities.
- Occasional travel for sports events and competitions.
