Fairburn Avenue Elementary School is a high-performing Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 5th grade school located in the Westwood community of Los Angeles. The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic, collaborative, and motivating Physical Education Coach who will provide high-quality physical education instruction for students in Transitional Kindergarten through 5th Grade. This part-time position supports student health and wellness through engaging lessons aligned with LAUSD and California state standards while fostering a positive, inclusive, and active learning environment.  This role will report to the administration of the school and will run through the 2026-2027 school year.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging physical education lessons for TK-5 students.
• Teach physical fitness, movement, team sports, and health concepts.
• Develop fundamental motor skills and physical literacy.
• Promote flexibility, strength, endurance, and wellness.
• Foster teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.
• Support fitness assessments and school-wide wellness initiatives.
• Lead morning fitness sessions and special events.
• Coordinate Fairburn's psychomotor program.
• Coach sports including basketball, soccer, flag football, and track & field.
• Collaborate with the principal, teachers and staff
• Maintain equipment and ensure student safety.

Desired Qualifications

• Familiar with California Standards of Physical Education
• Experience working with elementary-aged children.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Organized, dependable, and collaborative.
• Ability to complete LAUSD onboarding requirements.
• PE credential or coaching certification.
• CPR/First Aid certification.
• Experience teaching elementary PE

Hours and Compensation

The role requires approximately 25-30 hours per week with a rate between $35-$40 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.  The contract length for this position is 10 months
