Why Join Us

The Child At Risk Evaluation (CARE) Team at Children's Hospital of Michigan sits at the intersection of medicine, advocacy, and child protection - doing work that genuinely changes outcomes for vulnerable patients and families. As the first and largest children's hospital in Michigan and a U.S. News & World Report-ranked facility, CHM offers an academic platform with national reach and real institutional support. You'll join a multidisciplinary team with deep community ties, active involvement in local and state advocacy, and a mission that extends well beyond the clinic walls. If you're fellowship-trained in child abuse pediatrics and ready to make your work matter, this is that opportunity.

Position Highlights

  • Full-time Pediatrician specializing in Child Abuse within the established CARE Team at Children's Hospital of Michigan
  • Inpatient consultation and chart review of active and discharged cases
  • Outpatient follow-up for patients seen during inpatient consults
  • Coordination of referrals to community trauma-based therapy programs
  • Communication of medical findings to CPS, law enforcement, and other community partners
  • Court testimony as a medical expert in child maltreatment cases
  • Community education focused on child abuse recognition and impact
  • Teaching and precepting opportunities with medical students, residents, and pediatric emergency medicine fellows
  • Participation in local, state, and federal child advocacy initiatives
  • 228-bed academic children's hospital within the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) system

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience in academic child abuse pediatrics
  • Academic appointment with opportunities for curriculum development, skills assessment, and fellow precepting
  • Collaborative, mission-driven team environment within a nationally recognized pediatric institution
  • Malpractice insurance provided
  • Health, dental, and life insurance
  • 401(k) with employer matching
  • Deferred compensation program
  • Relocation assistance

Candidate Requirements

  • Board Certified with the American Board of Pediatrics
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Child Abuse Pediatrics
  • Fellowship training in Child Abuse and Maltreatment preferred
  • Academic experience including medical student, resident, or fellow precepting, curriculum development, and/or evaluation and skills assessment
  • Must be eligible to obtain licensure in the State of Michigan

Why Detroit

Detroit is a city in the middle of a compelling comeback - with a revitalized downtown, a thriving food and arts scene, and a fierce civic pride that's hard to find anywhere else. The cost of living is well below the national average, which means your compensation goes further here than in most major metros, and the surrounding suburbs offer excellent schools and a strong sense of community. The region sits at the heart of the Great Lakes, putting world-class fishing, boating, and outdoor recreation within easy reach, and Chicago is a short drive when you want a big-city weekend. For physicians who want to do meaningful work in a place with real character and genuine momentum, Detroit delivers.
