    Job Description

    Pediatric Emergency Medicine Physician

Children arrive in crisis, and the first minutes decide the rest of the story. This role puts a board-certified pediatric emergency physician at the center of that window—stabilizing the sickest kids, guiding a high-acuity team, and making care safer for every family who walks through the doors. Success is measured in lives protected, decisions made cleanly under pressure, and a department that runs better because you are in it.

    Performance Objectives

    • Lead resuscitation and acute management of critically ill and injured infants, children, and adolescents, meeting evidence-based time-to-intervention standards for airway, sepsis, trauma, and status epilepticus.
    • Own a defined share of annual pediatric ED volume with high-quality documentation, appropriate disposition, and a low rate of unplanned return visits.
    • Reduce preventable harm by driving protocol adherence for high-risk pathways and closing at least two safety or throughput gaps each year.
    • Supervise and teach residents, APPs, and nurses in real time so independent practice and procedural competence measurably improve.
    • Partner with hospital medicine, PICU, surgery, and EMS to cut transfer delays and handoff failures for the highest-acuity patients.
    • Contribute to quality dashboards—sepsis bundle compliance, pain control, imaging stewardship—and act on the data, not just report it.

    Environment & Resources

You will practice in a dedicated pediatric emergency setting within a regional children’s or community system that sees a full mix of medical, trauma, and behavioral emergencies. The team includes pediatric-trained nurses, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, child life, and on-call specialists. You will have access to a pediatric crash cart, point-of-care ultrasound, a staffed resuscitation bay, and an electronic health record with pediatric order sets. The role reports to the medical director of pediatric emergency medicine, with protected time for quality work and a defined clinical FTE.

    Essential Qualifications

    • MD or DO with completion of a pediatric emergency medicine fellowship, or emergency medicine or pediatrics residency plus PEM fellowship training as required for the privileging path.
    • Board certification or active board eligibility in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
    • Unrestricted state medical license (or eligibility) and DEA registration; current PALS and ATLS.
    • Demonstrated independent management of pediatric airway, shock, trauma, and procedural sedation.
    • Evidence of teaching, quality improvement, or protocol work that changed clinical outcomes—not attendance alone.
    • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a shared schedule.

    Role Selling Points

    • A true pediatric emergency practice, not adult shifts with occasional kids.
    • Authority to change protocols, not just follow them, with leadership that reviews outcomes with you.
    • A teaching environment where your clinical standard becomes the team’s standard.
    • Competitive compensation, malpractice coverage, and a schedule built for sustainable high-acuity work.
    • A clear path to medical directorship or quality leadership for physicians who deliver results.
