Job Description Summary

The Part-Time Pediatric Health Nursing Instructor (Didactic and Clinical) provides high-quality instruction within the Nursing Program in classroom (didactic), laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings. The adjunct member promotes student success by integrating evidence-based practice, clinical judgment, critical thinking, and professional nursing standards into pediatric nursing education. Faculty prepare students to deliver safe, developmentally appropriate, family-centered care to infants, children, adolescents, and their families.

Teaching assignments are based on program needs and may include daytime, evening, weekend, laboratory, simulation, and clinical instruction.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Nursing. Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina or eligibility for North Carolina licensure
  • Minimum of two (2) calendar years, or the equivalent of full-time clinical experience, as a registered nurse in pediatric nursing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current pediatric nursing practice, evidence-based care, and professional nursing standards
  • Must meet North Carolina Board of Nursing faculty qualification requirements through one of the following pathways:
  • Hold a Master's degree or higher in Nursing; or
  • Commit to obtaining a Master's degree in Nursing within three (3) years of employment; or
  • Complete required educational preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, within the first three (3) years of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree or higher in Nursing. Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.
  • Previous teaching experience in an accredited nursing program
  • National certification in pediatric nursing

Essential Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following and other duties as required.

  • Teach pediatric nursing courses in classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical environments.
  • Facilitate student learning related to pediatric growth and development, family-centered care, health promotion, acute and chronic pediatric conditions, medication administration, and communication with children and families.
  • Supervise and evaluate students in pediatric clinical settings to ensure safe, ethical, and evidence-based nursing practice.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate instructional activities that support course and program outcomes.
  • Assess student learning and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate student records, grades, and clinical documentation.
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment that supports student success and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and clinical partners to provide quality learning experiences.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, orientation, professional development, accreditation activities, and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned.
  • Maintain compliance with college policies, North Carolina Board of Nursing regulations, and clinical agency requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of pediatric nursing practice and current healthcare standards.
  • Knowledge of nursing education principles and adult learning theory.
  • Ability to teach and evaluate students in classroom, simulation, and clinical settings.
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use instructional technology and learning management systems.

Work Schedule

  • Part-time; assignments are based on program needs and faculty qualifications.
  • Didactic instruction: Primarily scheduled during daytime hours and may include hybrid instructional formats.
  • Clinical instruction: May include day, evening, and/or weekend clinical assignments based on clinical site availability and program needs.
  • Additional assignments may include laboratory, simulation, student evaluation activities, and faculty meetings as required.
