Job Opportunity: Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist

Our organization is currently seeking a full-time, board-certified or board-eligible pediatric hematologist/oncologist to join our dynamic and expanding division as an attending physician in the Solid Tumor Section.

Role Overview

The selected candidate will play a vital and collaborative role within our division and solid tumor section. Key responsibilities will encompass:

  • Providing clinical care and engaging in teaching activities.
  • Participating in clinical research initiatives.
  • While the primary focus is on solid tumors, our team also manages cases involving liquid tumors and benign blood disorders in both outpatient and inpatient environments.

Our physicians are responsible for supervising pediatric residents and fellows in various settings, actively contributing to the education of medical students and other learners. Additionally, our staff is engaged in both clinical and laboratory research as well as educational projects.

Academic Affiliations

Academic appointments are available through the University of Arizona-College of Medicine Phoenix, Mayo Clinic Arizona, and Creighton University.

About the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders

The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders is recognized as one of the largest pediatric programs nationwide, averaging over 400 new oncology patients annually, with approximately 50% being newly diagnosed with solid tumors.

We have robust clinical and laboratory research programs focusing on:

  • Oncology (solid tumors, leukemia/lymphoma)
  • Neuro-oncology
  • Survivorship
  • Hematological disorders
  • Phase I/II investigational drug development

Our center is an active participant in various consortia, including COG, POETIC, TACL, Histiocyte Society, and NACHO, providing access to consortium trials, phase I and II industry-sponsored studies, and investigator-initiated trials.

Fellowship Programs

We offer an ACGME-approved fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology, accommodating three fellows per year, along with a one-year specialty fellowship in Bone Marrow Transplant.

Position ResponsibilitiesPatient Care Services
  • Deliver patient care services within clinical privileges, including:
    • Direct patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
    • Providing subspecialty consultations and follow-up care.
    • Conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
    • Addressing urgent and emergent care needs as required.
  • Commit to achieving optimal patient and family-centered care.
  • Support hospital patient satisfaction goals and division-specific targets.
  • Adhere to divisional standards for patient safety and quality of care.
  • Practice contemporary evidence-based medicine.
Divisional Responsibilities
  • Work towards achieving annual goals and objectives for the physician, division, and hospital.
  • Contribute to medical education programs, including:
    • Supervising trainees and allied health professionals in service delivery.
    • Conducting teaching rounds, lectures, and conferences for trainees.
    • Participating in the education and supervision of trainees and allied health professionals.
    • Engaging in postgraduate continuing education activities.
  • Support the division's research initiatives and programmatic growth.
  • Assist with satellite efforts of the division as appropriate.
