    Position Summary

    Good Samaritan University Hospital, a member of Catholic Health, is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Pediatric Hospitalist to join our growing inpatient pediatric program.

    The Pediatric Hospitalist will provide comprehensive, family-centered care to hospitalized infants, children, and adolescents, working collaboratively with pediatric subspecialists, emergency medicine physicians, neonatologists, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams. The physician will manage a broad spectrum of pediatric medical conditions, coordinate inpatient care, and ensure safe transitions to outpatient providers.

    Key Responsibilities

    Clinical Care

    • Provide comprehensive inpatient pediatric care for newborns, infants, children, and adolescents.
    • Admit, evaluate, diagnose, and manage pediatric patients with acute and chronic medical conditions.
    • Perform daily patient rounds and develop evidence-based treatment plans.
    • Respond to pediatric consultations from the Emergency Department and other inpatient services.
    • Stabilize and manage critically ill pediatric patients until transfer to a higher level of care when appropriate.
    • Attend low-risk deliveries and provide newborn assessments as needed.
    • Perform newborn examinations and coordinate care with obstetric and neonatal teams.
    • Manage common pediatric conditions including:
      • Respiratory illnesses (asthma, bronchiolitis, pneumonia)
      • Gastroenteritis and dehydration
      • Fever and infectious diseases
      • Diabetes management
      • Seizure disorders
      • Failure to thrive
      • Neonatal jaundice
      • Skin and soft tissue infections
      • Other general pediatric medical conditions

    Care Coordination

    • Collaborate closely with Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Neonatology, Pediatric Subspecialists, Nursing, Pharmacy, Respiratory Therapy, Social Work, and Case Management.
    • Coordinate consultations with specialty services when indicated.
    • Communicate effectively with families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
    • Ensure smooth transitions of care to primary care pediatricians and outpatient specialists.

    Quality & Leadership

    • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and quality improvement initiatives.
    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record (Epic).
    • Participate in hospital committees, clinical education, and performance improvement projects.
    • Support patient safety initiatives and evidence-based clinical practice.

    Qualifications

    Education

    • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).

    Training

    • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Pediatric Residency.

    Licensure & Certification

    • Active New York State medical license (or eligibility).
    • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatrics.
    • DEA registration.
    • BLS, PALS, and NRP certifications (or ability to obtain upon hire).

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Previous Pediatric Hospital Medicine experience preferred.
    • Excellent clinical judgment and diagnostic skills.
    • Strong communication and family-centered care approach.
    • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
    • Experience with Epic or comparable electronic medical record systems.
