The AHWFB Pediatric Nephrology Department is seeking a skilled Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP-AC) or Physician Assistant to join the inpatient team in Winston-Salem, NC. This Advanced Practice Provider will support a wide range of inpatient and infusion services, including nephrology consults, infusion visits, and care for admitted patients. The role offers opportunities to develop procedural skills and may include providing inpatient coverage for up to two weekends per month in the future. Ideal candidates will have previous experience or training in acute pediatric care and a passion for delivering high-quality, compassionate care to children with complex nephrology needs across multiple environments of care, with the goal of becoming a Pediatric Nephrology NP.

You will join a team of pediatric nephrologist physicians, two APPs, a social worker, a renal dietician, a transplant coordinator, nephrology RNs, and hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis RNs. Our Childrens hospitals has the full spectrum of pediatric subspecialists to help us care for our babies, children, and teens with kidney disease.
What Youll Do:
As a valued member of our healthcare team, the PA/PNP will play a key role in team-focused patient care, conducting thorough examinations and evaluations in a clinical setting. Responsibilities include:
• Using medical decision-making skills to determine appropriate patient care plans. • Collaborating with medical team when needed for effective team-based care. • Ordering and interpreting laboratory and imaging studies and diagnostic procedures. • Explaining the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient. • Performing procedures per department or practice guidelines. • Potential for and encouraged to precept students and/or medical learners. • Upholding AHWFB missions, values, and cultural commitment. • Performing other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Physician Assistant (PA) Requirements:
• Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program; Masters Degree preferred. • Current North Carolina Medical Board Medical License, Certified by NCCPAP. • Pediatric experience preferred but will consider new grads. • BLS and PALS are required.
Nurse Practitioner Requirements:
• Graduation from accredited Nurse Practitioner Masters Program, Masters degree or higher required. • Current North Carolina Board of Nursing Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner license. • Board certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care. • Pediatric experience preferred but will consider new grads. • BLS and PALS are required.
