POSTION SUMMARY:

The Pediatric Nurse will provide medical support to infants, toddlers, children, and teens alongside a Pediatrician or Primary Care Provider. Their duties include communicating with children of different abilities and developmental levels about their symptoms, talking to patients and their families about the child's health.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Work in collaboration with pediatrician, primary care providers, behavioral health providers, care team members, and referral partners in the community to coordinate all aspects of pediatric patient care.

2. Clerical responsibilities are assigned that include but are not limited to sending/receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/X-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. completing forms, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics

3. Provides support for the patient and family to address their concerns, fears, problems, and options.

4. Patient care responsibilities as assigned that may include pre-visit planning, checking provider schedule and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; identifying and assessing the child's needs; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; monitoring temperature, pulse, breathing and blood pressure; administering medications and giving childhood vaccinations following age-appropriate guidelines; collection of laboratory samples and complete testing;

5. Environmental responsibilities as assigned that may include setting up instruments and equipment according to department/clinic protocols; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; restocking exam/procedure rooms

6. Actively collaborate with other clinical and non-clinical staff to ensure care is proactive and coordinated among care providers and care settings. This collaboration can include attendance in team huddles, training, and communication.

7. Participates in quality improvement activities on own initiative and as assigned.

8. Organizational responsibilities as assigned including respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergence codes; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor.

9. Recommends, assists in development, and implements improvements in all areas of responsibility

10. Other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Registered Nursing License

CPR certified

Demonstrate knowledge of health education subjects

Ability to complete forms in an orderly and accurate manner

Able to use sound judgment. Possess a calm disposition and the ability to work easily with people

Ability to relate to the public in all areas

1. Knowledge of health and social issues impacting diverse clients and their well-being.

2. Knowledge of agency policies, procedures and protocols.

3. Knowledge of appropriate delegation and coordination of tasks and duties in the operations of a clinic, using appropriate organizational and priority setting skills.

2. Skill in planning, organizing and developing efficiency within a clinic setting.

3. Skill in developing and maintaining open communication and effective working relationships with staff, patients, public and external agencies.

Abilities:

3. Ability to communicate appropriately with diverse patient population.

4. Ability to take initiative and to exercise independent judgment, decision making and problem solving.

5. Ability to research and prepare reports and other correspondence as required.

 

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computer hardware and software to access community resource database.

Work Environment: Office and exam room settings. Some exposure to communicable diseases. Some interactions in community provider network/settings.

Mental/Physical Requirements: Combination of sitting, standing, and walking. Occasional stress in balancing multiple demands and in dealing with patients/families experiencing tension.
