Pediatric Ophthalmologist

A growing Pediatric Ophthalmology program in Eastern North Carolina is seeking a mission-driven, visionary Pediatric Ophthalmologist to join and help advance a developing academic division. As one of the only pediatric ophthalmologists serving a region of approximately 1.5 million people, this role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful community impact while contributing to program growth and academic development.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for pediatric ophthalmic care, strong leadership and program-building skills, and a commitment to academic medicine, including education and research. This position offers the chance to practice in an innovative, collaborative environment while addressing a significant regional need for pediatric ophthalmology services.

The medical center serves as a tertiary referral center, managing a high volume of complex ophthalmic conditions. The ophthalmology service continues to expand across subspecialties and has received ACGME approval to launch a new Ophthalmology residency, with the inaugural class beginning in summer 2026. The program benefits from a strong hospital-based referral network and community referrals in a region with limited subspecialty coverage.

Opportunity Highlights include:

  • Employment within a physician-led academic practice model
  • Hospital privileges at a tertiary medical center and affiliated ambulatory surgery center
  • Opportunity created by programmatic expansion
