Learning Success Strategies
Peer Learning Assistants provide individualized appointments with students to offer coaching on time management, study strategies, reading comprehension, note-taking, test-taking, and other learning and life skills for success in college and beyond.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Track and review hours with the supervisor to ensure that the expectation of 10 hours per week is met. • Collaborate with the supervisor and the LSS Graduate Assistant to complete training. • Build rapport and be able to provide direct research-based learning strategies coaching to JMU students. • Develop knowledge of learning success strategies personally and be willing to share them with the team. • Update resources and handouts related to learning success strategies. • Participate in LSS presentations to campus groups as requested. • Maintain and assist with gathering LSS data by the appropriate and accurate use of databases, Teams folders, surveys, administration, and Learning and Study Skills Inventory (LASSI) administration. • Participate as a member of the LSS team for support and collaboration within the Dean of Students Office. • Attend LSS staff trainings as planned, usually 2-3 days in August, occasionally 1 day in January, and weekly team meetings.

• Demonstrated academic and learning success in college. • Demonstrated time-management and organizational skills. • Willingness to learn and share specific research-based strategies and also to share with other students what has worked well for you in college.

Conditions of Employment
Students must be degree-seeking students enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
