Summary

Using lived experience with behavioral health issues, intellectual/developmental challenges, and/or substance use recovery, the Peer Support Specialist/Health Coach must have a demonstrated commitment to the recovery community and will guide, coach, and mentor others who are working towards recovery in a tobacco cessation program.  Peer Support Specialist/Health Coach will work within a whole health integration program, increasing awareness of the importance of addressing tobacco use and creating a strong peer support network that encourages mental health consumers to make a positive, healthy lifestyle change by addressing smoking and tobacco use.

Education and/or Experience                                                  

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Minimum six months of sustained recovery, two years preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide community-based health advocacy supports, tobacco cessation education, and information at health fairs as advocates for mental health. 
• Community Recovery Coach will work within a multi-faceted smoking cessation program, and as outreach workers, delivering presentations about smoking at mental health programs and brief tobacco feedback sessions to individuals at these programs.
• Increase awareness of the importance of addressing tobacco use and to create a strong peer support network that encourages mental health consumers to make a positive, healthy lifestyle change by addressing smoking and tobacco use.
• Provide additional support for members who have recently quit smoking through daily phone calls and support groups.
