Harold Washington is in the process of seeking a Japanese Tutor to enhance our language program. A Peer Tutor provides academic assistance and support to other students, providing individual and/or group tutoring to assist students in developing competency in course work, improve study skills and become independent learners. The ideal candidate should have a solid grasp of the fundamentals of the Japanese language.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the general direction of the assigned supervisor, the Peer Tutor provides general academic support including tutorial services, basic skills assistance and some general office duties for various City Colleges of Chicago academic departments.
Provide students with basic skills assistance in the academic area needed.
Provides one-on-one support and encouragement to help student(s) develop increased sense of self confidence and become an independent learner.
Engage tutees in active learning and provides academic assistance and support to help students develop positive attitudes toward learning and studying.
Listens and answers questions during tutoring sessions, helping students how to learn the material, develop and improve appropriate study skills and become independent learners.
Attends and successfully completes required tutor training meetings.
Plans tutoring sessions using a collaborative learning approach to help students better understand the course content and concepts, problem solve and improve study skills.
Performs related duties as required.

Salary Range: $17.00 per hour
Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as other factors such as internal equity.
