Description
ROLE: People Operations Generalist
REPORTS INTO: Director of People Operations
What is a People Operations Generalist at salt:
Salt is seeking a highly capable and autonomous People Operations Generalist to serve as a vital link between foundational execution and strategic people initiatives. Positioned as a key level within our People Ops team, you will serve as the operational backbone of our department.
The ideal candidate has graduated beyond entry-level coordination and is ready to act as a subject matter expert in benefits, compliance, and process optimization. You are a "systems thinker" who can manage our HRIS with precision while providing nuanced guidance to our team. This role requires a balance of analytical rigor and empathetic communication to ensure our "people-first" culture scales effectively as we grow.
Comprehensive Benefits & LOA Management
Lead the end-to-end administration of all Leave of Absence (LOA) cases, serving as the primary point of contact for employees and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
Act as the project manager for annual Open Enrollment, including vendor coordination and the creation of employee communication materials.
Serve as the day-to-day liaison for insurance brokers and retirement plan providers, resolving complex billing or enrollment issues.
Operational Systems & Compliance
Serve as a power user for Rippling, HRIS, overseeing data integrity, system configurations, and the automation of manual workflows.
Lead regular audits of employee records and internal policies to ensure Salt remains compliant in a shifting legal landscape.
Participate in the design and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all recurring People Ops processes to ensure consistency and scalability.
Total Rewards & Policy Support
Support the annual compensation review process by gathering market data and ensuring salary adjustments are accurately reflected in payroll and systems.
Keep abreast of company policies, handbooks, perks, and wellness programs to provide expert guidance to staff, ensuring a consistent and transparent employee experience.
Assist the Director of People Operations in addressing mid-level employee relations matters and conducting internal investigations as needed and requested.
Performance Management & Employee Engagement
Support the execution of mid-year and annual performance management cycles, assisting managers with goal-setting frameworks, tracking completion metrics, and guiding teams through growth plans.
Manage the deployment and administration of company-wide engagement surveys; analyze sentiment data to help leadership translate feedback into actionable retention initiatives.
Serve as a People Ops liaison and advisor for Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), providing operational support for their programming, budgeting, and community-building goals.
Champion typical day-to-day engagement needs, including the coordination of employee recognition programs, wellness pulses, and cross-departmental connection touchpoints.
Recruiting & Lifecycle Support
Collaborate with the People Operations Coordinator in supporting the Creative and Production Resourcing Managers with full-cycle recruitment for specialized roles, including ATS setup and interviewer briefing.
Partner with the People Operations Coordinator with the transition from candidate to employee, ensuring a seamless onboarding experience and professional offboarding/exit process.
Requirements
4–6 years of experience in a People/HR role, with significant exposure to benefits administration and HR systems.
Advanced proficiency in Rippling (or similar platforms like BambooHR or Workday) and Google Workspace.
Solid understanding of FMLA/LOA regulations, benefits compliance (COBRA, ERISA), and multi-state labor laws.
A natural architect who enjoys building spreadsheets, mapping out workflows, and creating order out of complexity.
A clear, empathetic communicator who can handle sensitive information with total discretion and professionalism.
Experience operating in a high-growth, fast-paced organization, with a track record of building scalable HR systems and processes from the ground up.
