Callista Surgery Center is seeking an experienced Per Diem OR Circulator Registered Nurse to support our surgical team in Walnut Creek, California. This is a per diem position, with scheduling based on surgical volume and facility needs. Flexibility to support scheduled surgical cases is required.
The OR Circulator RN is responsible for coordinating and providing nursing care throughout the intraoperative phase of the surgical experience. Working closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, Surgical Technologists, and other members of the perioperative team, the RN Circulator helps ensure each procedure is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established clinical and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
Perform circulating nurse responsibilities during surgical procedures.
Review the surgical schedule and ensure the operating room is appropriately prepared for scheduled cases.
Verify patient identity, surgical procedure, surgical site, consent, allergies, and required documentation.
Complete and document appropriate preoperative nursing assessments.
Participate in surgical time-outs and other required patient-safety procedures.
Maintain patient privacy, dignity, comfort, and safety throughout the intraoperative period.
Coordinate safe patient positioning and ensure appropriate positioning devices and precautions are utilized.
Maintain and monitor aseptic technique and infection-control practices within the operating room.
Collaborate with Surgical Technologists to perform and document sponge, sharps, and instrument counts.
Ensure medications and solutions used within the operating room are appropriately handled, labeled, and documented.
Handle surgical specimens according to facility policies and procedures.
Anticipate the needs of surgeons, anesthesia providers, and other members of the surgical team.
Monitor patient status and promptly communicate significant changes or concerns.
Maintain accurate and timely intraoperative nursing documentation.
Coordinate communication between the operating room, PACU, anesthesia providers, surgeons, and other members of the healthcare team.
Assist with efficient operating room turnover and preparation between cases.
Ensure appropriate equipment, supplies, medications, and emergency resources are available and functioning properly.
Follow established infection-prevention, medication-safety, and patient-safety procedures.
Respond appropriately during emergency situations and assist with emergency interventions as needed.
Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
Participate in required training, competency assessments, and facility education.
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program required.
Current and unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
Previous Operating Room circulating experience required.
Ambulatory surgery center experience strongly preferred.
Plastic surgery experience preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of perioperative nursing, surgical asepsis, infection prevention, and patient-safety standards.
Ability to work effectively and independently in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Strong clinical judgment, communication, organization, and critical-thinking skills.
Certifications
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
PALS certification preferred or required based on facility patient population and policy.
