Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) – Children’s Hospital

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician to support surgical and clinical departments by properly cleaning, disinfecting, assembling, sterilizing, and distributing medical instruments and equipment. The technician will follow strict infection-control and patient-safety standards, with a focus on pediatric surgical needs.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instruments.
• Prepare surgical trays, instrument sets, and case carts for pediatric procedures.
• Operate sterilization and other sterile processing equipment according to hospital protocols.
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage.
• Maintain accurate sterilization, quality-control, and tracking records.
• Distribute sterile supplies and instruments to operating rooms and clinical departments.
• Follow infection-control, aseptic technique, and safety procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked sterile processing area.
• Communicate with OR staff regarding instrument and equipment requirements.
• Handle pediatric-specific surgical instruments carefully and according to manufacturer and facility guidelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Previous sterile processing experience preferred, preferably in a hospital or surgical setting.
• CRCST, CSPDT, or equivalent sterile processing certification preferred/required depending on facility.
• Knowledge of infection prevention, sterilization, and surgical instrumentation.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work effectively with surgical, nursing, and other hospital teams.
