Position Summary
Boston Children’s Hospital is seeking a dedicated Per Diem Registered Nurse to join the Waltham Operating Room team. The Operating Room RN is responsible for delivering safe, high-quality patient care throughout the intra-operative period in both the circulating and scrub roles. This position requires strong clinical skill, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, family-centered setting. Scheduling flexibility is essential to meet the needs of the department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, and provide intraoperative nursing care based on the physiological and emotional needs of patients and families, in accordance with perioperative standards.
  • Function as a liaison among patients, families, surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures and ensure readiness of equipment, supplies, and instrumentation.
  • Perform circulating and scrub responsibilities while maintaining compliance with clinical standards, regulatory requirements, and hospital policies.
  • Document patient care accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Provide patient- and family-centered care, anticipating individualized education and support needs.
  • Manage resources efficiently to support safe patient care and smooth workflow within the surgical suite.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, communicate safety concerns, and use information technology to support clinical decision-making and coordination of care.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues to provide high-quality, culturally sensitive, and developmentally appropriate care.
  • Work 8- and 10-hour shifts, with rotation, short call requirements as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required
Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of Operating Room experience
  • Pediatric experience required
  • Orthopedic experience preferred
  • EPIC experience preferred
Licensure/Certifications
  • Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license required
  • PALS preferred​​​​​​​

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
