Overview:

Pediatrix & Obstetrix has an exciting opportunity for a Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonographer to join our team at one of our MFM clinics in Laguna Hills, CA. At Pediatrix, we are passionate about giving high-risk expectant mothers and their babies the care they deserve.

Responsibilities:

The diagnostic medical Sonographer provides diagnostic ultrasound for patients in the Maternal Fetal Medicine setting. The diagnostic medical Sonographer works independently and with other members of the healthcare team to provide comprehensive care to pregnant women. They work closely with perinatologists, providing preliminary reports and assisting with procedures. Provide a brief description of the job’s primary purpose and responsibility within the organization.  

 

  • Perform detailed fetal anatomical surveys, including twins and triplets. Acquires anatomical, pathological, and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician.  
  • Assists physicians with procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling.  
  • Accurately documents exam findings, measurements, images, and procedural details in the ultrasound reporting and image archiving systems. 
  • Records patient history, indications, and pertinent observations in accordance with departmental protocols and regulatory standards. 
  • Generates clear, comprehensive preliminary reports for interpreting physician review, and final signature. 
  • Reviews completed studies with interpreting physicians to communicate findings, address questions, and support diagnostic accuracy. 
  • Ensures documentation is complete, timely, and compliant with organizational policies, accreditation requirements, and patient safety standards 
  • Selects and assigns appropriate exam types, procedures, and indication (diagnosis) codes based on services performed, clinical documentation, and provider orders to support accurate reporting, interpretation, and billing. 
  • Escorts patients and accompanying family members to and from the examination room in a courteous and professional manner. 
  • Prepares patients for ultrasound examinations by verifying identity, reviewing relevant history, and ensuring comfort and privacy. 
  • Explains complex procedures and examinations to patients and family. 
  • Provides reassurance and clear communication throughout the exam to support patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction 
  • Ensures the appropriate consent and/or declinations are obtained. 
  • Maintains proper operation of the ultrasound equipment. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate corrective action.  
  • Maintains laundry for examination rooms. 
  • Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies 
  • Follows the accredited laboratory protocols for obtaining two-dimensional images, color flow, Doppler, and m-mode where applicable.  
  • Follows and complies with universal precautions and OSHA standards. Follows and complies with safety and security training. 
  • Rotates to other locations as needed to cover Sonographer absences.  
  • Performs related and other assigned duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education:

  • Satisfactory completion of one of the following; graduate of an accredited sonography program with a degree in ultrasonography or equivalent, at least two (2) years in Allied Health Educational Program and one (1) year on-the-job- training in ultrasonography, or graduate from an accredited sonography program with a degree in ultrasonography or equivalent
  • Maintain or be eligible for certification as an American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS).

  • ARDMS OB/GYN or Fetal Echo (FE) certified or eligible to obtain within 12 months of hire.

  • Must provide evidence of continuing education credits to fulfill accreditation requirements.
  • NT experience or certification preferred.

  • CPR certification preferred

Experience

  • Minimum six months experience as an ultrasound technician working in OB/GYN and/or MFM setting preferred.

Experience Industry: Maternal Fetal Medicine Healthcare

 

Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled in operating ultrasound equipment.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to recognize ethical, legal, and professional issues inherent in providing care and acts in a non-directive, non-judgemental manner, recognizing an individuals religious, ethical, and moral opinions/beliefs.

Pay Range (Base Pay): $44.52- $71.25 per hour

Starting Pay Range (Base Pay): $44.52- $68.00 per hour

Per-diem is defined as team members who are scheduled as needed and not on a consistent basis.   

Health Insurance: Pediatrix does not offer health insurance for team members in a Per Diem role.   

Other Benefits: Employee Assistance Program (EAP) 

Retirement Benefits: Pediatrix does not offer retirement benefits for team members in a Per Diem role.   

Paid Time Off: Pediatrix does not offer paid time off for team members in a Per Diem role.   

Paid Sick Leave:   

Eligible per-diem team members will accrue one hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked in California. Team members begin to accrue sick leave upon hire. However, they cannot use accrued sick leave until their 90th day of employment. Eligible team members continue to accrue paid sick leave as they work up to the maximum accrual cap of 80 hours or 10 days of paid sick leave. This means a team member would stop accruing paid sick leave when their paid sick leave bank reaches 80 hours or 10 days. If a team member used paid sick leave and dropped below 80 hours or ten days, the team member would begin accruing paid sick leave again. Accrued paid sick leave will carry over from year to year but is limited to the 80-hour/ten-day cap.  

NOTEThe Company will not pay team members for unused sick leave upon termination of employment.
