Position Summary
Our client, a global leader in advanced autonomous and robotic solutions across multiple industries, is seeking a Perception Engineer III to develop, integrate, and validate perception systems that enable autonomous heavy equipment to understand and navigate complex outdoor environments. This role works with data from cameras, LiDAR, radar, GPS/GNSS, and inertial sensors to support obstacle detection, terrain modeling, localization, sensor fusion, and autonomous vehicle operation. The engineer collaborates with software, systems, GNC, and test teams to deliver reliable perception capabilities for autonomous equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and integrate perception algorithms for obstacle detection, object classification, tracking, terrain analysis, and environmental awareness.
  • Process and analyze sensor data from cameras, LiDAR, radar, GPS/GNSS, and inertial systems.
  • Develop terrain models and perception features that support autonomous navigation and path planning.
  • Design and implement multi-sensor fusion solutions for reliable operation in challenging outdoor environments.
  • Validate perception performance through simulation, software-in-the-loop (SIL), hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), and field testing.
  • Analyze test and field data to identify performance issues, edge cases, and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop tools for data processing, visualization, labeling, regression testing, and performance evaluation.
  • Troubleshoot sensor calibration, synchronization, localization, and system integration issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to support autonomous system development and deployment.
  • Document software designs, algorithms, test results, and technical decisions.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing perception, computer vision, robotics, sensor fusion, machine learning, or autonomous systems software.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and Python.
  • Experience with computer vision, point cloud processing, sensor fusion, and robotic sensing technologies.
  • Experience with Linux development environments and ROS/ROS2.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, or related discipline.
  • Experience developing perception systems for autonomous vehicles, heavy equipment, construction machinery, or mobile robotics.
  • Experience with OpenCV, PCL, PyTorch, TensorFlow, CUDA, or similar technologies.
  • Knowledge of machine learning, LiDAR processing, terrain mapping, probabilistic robotics, and sensor fusion techniques.
  • Experience with embedded computing platforms, simulation environments, and autonomous system validation.
