Job Overview:
RWJBarnabas Health is looking to add a qualified Coordinator within the Performance Improvement Department. The PI Coordinator helps coordinate the development, implementation, and evaluation of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital's overall performance improvement program. This includes but is not limited to the following: supporting the performance improvement process, identifying performance trends, as well as prioritizing, and recommending improvements. The PI Coordinator also plays a supportive role in ensuring compliance with all Regulatory standards. The PI Coordinator reports directly to the Director, Quality/Safety/Regulatory.

Essential Functions:
Coordinates hospital wide Performance Improvement activities related to strategic initiatives, Operation Excellence, and departmental goals
Assists departments with development of performance improvement indicators and analyzes the data collected
Responsible for general oversight and maintenance of the organization s generic and variance screening, mortality reviews quality reviews and indicators, surgical and invasive procedure monitoring, etc; as well as scorecards dashboards
Maintains copies of minutes and related documents in Performance Improvement
Coordinates with the departments to develop the annual performance improvement appraisal
Assures that meetings are scheduled, agendas are prepared, and minutes are completed in a timely way
Responsible for providing consultative services for RWJ staff & physicians toward meeting standards of accreditation, performance improvement, and organizational compliance:
This includes, but is not limited to providing education to self and others on current Joint Commission standards and other accreditation standards, as well as the latest quality indicators in health care
Provides ongoing education regarding quality, regulatory and performance improvement initiatives in relevant forums such as department meetings or individual meetings
Coordinates designated Performance Improvement meetings involving Medical Staff as evidenced by the following performance standards
Reviews new Medical Staff Quality Indicators with physicians and other staff as appropriate
Coordinates appropriate Quality reviews and prepares reports prior to meetings
Coordinates quality data needed for physicians for re appointment process and as requested for performance improvement initiatives
Meets with physician /staff as necessary prior to meetings and on an ad hoc basis to assure effective communication of quality metrics and case review outcomes
Is knowledgeable of the requirements of the current CMS and Joint Commission quality initiatives, including the current Leapfrog and Hospital Safety Grade metrics
Assists the qualiabstractors, both local and corporate, in ensuring accurate data abstraction
Maintains ongoing communication with abstractors to help identify issues and trends for improvement opportunities
Presents core measure data to the applicable hospital department leaders and physician service lines leaders, and assists in implementation of performance improvement initiatives to improve care
Incident Reporting System and follow-up activities
Reviews all events reported within the their departmental responsibilities
Utilizes the hospital s safety event classification system to classify events in the online event reporting system
Assists department leaders with apparent cause analyses of events in their areas and assist with the development of action plans that leaders will implement to help prevent a similar reoccurrence
Participates in the RCA process for applicable serious safety events
Completes special projects of the Director, QualitySafetyRegulatory andor the VP Medical AffairsCMO in a professional manner, as evidenced by the
following:
Project is completed according to the established guidelines and time frames of the requesting party
Effective time management skills are used to ensure that projects are completed without jeopardizing normal daily work requirements
Careful research and investigation is done so that data being used are accurate and up to date
Effective communication is employed throughout the project to ensure efficiency and mutual success by all stakeholders
Coordinates and makes recommendations to enhance optimum use of information systems as evidenced by the following:
Utilizes databases to provide summary reports for the hospital and Corporate Quality as applicable on both a scheduled and nonscheduled basis, i.e.:
Hospital report cards, dashboards, audit
Assures computer based reports are accurate and timely
Seeks innovative ways to expand capabilities of departmental information systems
Pursues ongoing professional growth and development as evidence by the following:
Attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences, in-services,
Review and sharing of literature with colleagues in the department and across the system as applicable
Networking with colleagues
Environment of Care Standard Regulatory Compliance:
Demonstrates the awareness of safety, security, life safety, emergency preparedness and utility and equipment management policies competencies,
Adheres to Standard Precautions
Adheres to Safety and Infection Control policies
Attends mandatory in-services
Helps maintain a safe and clean patient/work environment
Follows incident reporting procedures
Ensures that appropriate standards of practice follow corporate compliance guidelines, and that results of accreditation surveys and licensure reviews by NJSDOH and JCAHO are satisfactory
Acts in an ethical and legal manner, and assures that all actions are in the best interest of both patients and the hospital
