    Performing Arts Center Technical Assistant - Part Time

    Qualifications

    ? Experience with theatrical lighting, sound reinforcement, video projection, or stagecraft preferred.

    ? Basic knowledge of digital audio consoles, lighting consoles, and theatrical production equipment.

    ? Ability to read stage plots, lighting paperwork, and basic technical drawings.

    ? Working knowledge of theater safety practices and proper use of hand and power tools.

    ? Strong organizational and communication skills.

    ? Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.

    ? Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and flexible hours based on event schedules.

    ? Must be able to pass a NJDOE Criminal Background check.

    Position Summary

    ? Under the direction of the PAC Coordinator, provide technical support for performances, rehearsals, school events, and community rentals in a performing arts center.

    ? Assist with the safe setup, operation, and strike of theatrical equipment and event production systems.

    ? Support lighting, sound, video, staging, and backstage operations while maintaining a professional and safe environment.

    ? Provide technical coverage in the absence of the PAC Technical Director.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    ? Assist with the setup, operation, and teardown of theatrical lighting, sound, projection, and video systems.

    ? Set up stages, risers, curtains, scenery, drapery, and performance equipment according to event requirements.Operate lighting and sound consoles under the direction of the Technical Director or Event Supervisor.

    ? Assist performers, directors, guest artists, and rental groups with technical needs during rehearsals and performances.

    ? Perform scene changes and backstage crew assignments during live productions.

    ? Conduct pre-event equipment inspections and basic troubleshooting of technical systems.

    ? Maintain inventory of theatrical equipment, tools, cables, microphones, and production supplies.

    ? Ensure all equipment is properly stored, cleaned, and maintained after each event.

    ? Follow all OSHA, school district, and theater safety regulations.

    ? Assist with rigging, ladder work, and the safe handling of production equipment within established safety guidelines.

    ? Monitor backstage areas to ensure safe working conditions throughout events.

    ? Assist with loading and unloading scenery, instruments, and production equipment.

    ? Communicate effectively with directors, teachers, performers, facility staff, and outside organizations.

    ? Provide customer service and technical assistance to community users of the facility.

    ? Help prepare technical documentation including stage plots, equipment lists, and event checklists.

    ? Report equipment damage, maintenance needs, and safety concerns to the Technical Director.

    ? Assist with emergency procedures and facility evacuation protocols when necessary.

    ? Support special events including concerts, theater productions, assemblies, graduations, lectures, and community performances.

    ? Perform other duties related to theater operations as assigned.

    Physical Requirements

    ? Lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

    ? Climb ladders and work at heights in accordance with safety procedures.

    ? Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work for extended periods during events.

    ? Work in dimly lit, noisy, and fast-paced theatrical environments.

    ? Operate lifts and other equipment after receiving appropriate training.

    Preferred Qualifications

    ? Experience in a school, college, or community performing arts center.

    ? Familiarity with ETC lighting systems, Midas digital audio consoles, wireless microphone systems, and projection technology.

    ? Knowledge of theatrical rigging, fly systems, and stage carpentry.

    ? CPR, First Aid, OSHA, or ETCP-related safety training is desirable.

    Work Schedule

    ? Position is event-based with hours varying according to rehearsals, performances, rentals, and special events.

    ? Evening, weekend, and occasional holiday work required.

    Hourly Position

    $20 p/h
