The San Juan VAMC serves as the main facility, offering a full range of medical, surgical, and specialty care services including open-heart surgery, interventional cardiology, and advanced cardiac care.
Facility Address: 10 Casia Street, San Juan, Puerto Rico, 00921 Perfusionist RESPONSIBILITIES (included but not limited to)- Operate and manage cardiopulmonary bypass equipment during open-heart surgical procedures, ensuring optimal patient hemodynamic stability and oxygenation
- Set up, calibrate, and maintain all perfusion equipment including the cardiac perfusion pump, heater-cooler units, Impella devices, intra-aortic balloon pumps, and EVH vein harvesting systems
- Monitor and adjust blood flow rates, gas exchange, anticoagulation levels, and patient temperature throughout cardiac surgical procedures
- Assist the surgical team with intraoperative autotransfusion, cell salvage, and blood product management
- Perform quality assurance checks on all perfusion equipment and maintain accurate procedure records
- Provide standby support for interventional cardiology cases as needed
Perfusionist REQUIREMENTS- Must hold current certification as a Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP)
- Must have a current and unrestricted license in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia
- Must have current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association
- Proficiency with cardiac perfusion pump, heater-cooler, Impella, intra-aortic balloon pump, and EVH vein harvesting pump
- Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited perfusion program
