About the Job:

As a member of the Patient Care Services team, the Perinatal Care Technician supports the obstetrical team in a dual role, functioning as both a scrub technician for Caesarean sections and tubal ligations and as a Clinical Assistant. Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse, this position helps ensure safe, efficient, and compassionate care for patients and families while supporting clinical, surgical, and administrative operations within the Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) department.

What You’ll Do:

  • Function as a scrub technician during Caesarean sections and tubal ligation procedures.

  • Prepare sterile instruments and surgical equipment for operative procedures.

  • Assist the surgical team with verification processes, intra-operative procedures, and closure protocols.

  • Perform basic patient care activities and assist with activities of daily living as delegated.

  • Collect and document patient care information including vital signs, pulse oximetry, intake/output, and select waived testing.

  • Anticipate and respond to patient needs in a timely and compassionate manner.

  • Assist with patient transport, equipment movement, and supply distribution.

  • Maintain patient records and ensure appropriate documentation is completed accurately.

  • Coordinate administrative functions, including preparing records for admissions and processing discharge information.

  • Schedule follow-up appointments and maintain unit schedules and bed boards.

  • Serve as a receptionist and communication liaison within the patient care area.

  • Maintain stock levels and support admission readiness of patient rooms.

  • Promote a safe patient care environment through adherence to safety and infection prevention practices.

  • Inspect surgical instruments for sterility, safety, and functionality.

  • Maintain sterile fields and support environmental sanitation within the surgical suite.

  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations.

  • Utilize computer systems effectively to support patient care and operational workflows.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support departmental and organizational goals.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Who You Are / Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Current New Hampshire Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) license.

  • Minimum of six (6) months of LNA experience in an acute care setting.

  • Basic medical terminology knowledge.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to comprehend and communicate effectively in English.

  • Ability to work on-site.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a hospital-based perinatal technician training program or equivalent training.

  • Health Unit Coordinator Certification.

Required Competencies

Within 30 days of hire:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS).

Within 90 days of hire:

  • Scrub technician competency.

  • Health Unit Coordinator competencies.

  • Glucometer testing.

  • Safe patient handling devices.

  • Bladder scanning (department specific).

  • Heel sticks (department specific).

  • Hearing screening (department specific).

  • Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) screening (department specific).

  • Transcutaneous Bilirubin (TCB) screening (department specific).
