Overview

Performs the duties of the PSA I and II, plus specialty specific advanced field support skills.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

  • May assist surgeon at surgical field by passing instrumentation at skin closure once the counts are completed and specimens are removed.
  • May be the primary scrub on closed procedures, splint and cast applications, and closed fracture reductions.
  • Understands the basic rules and principles of aseptic technique and preparation and maintenance of the surgical field.
  • Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or surgeon, the PSA III duties may include: performing patient preps, checking of the case carts, preparing equipment and supplies for specialty procedures, setting up rooms per preference cards, assisting with position of patients for procedures and applying the dressing to closed wound.
  • Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
  • May have limited access to areas storing medications.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

 

Other Related Functions

  • Responsible for reporting defective material or instrumentation, equipment and takes appropriate action to repair or replace items.
  • Recognizes and corrects procedure deficiencies in supplies and equipment within specialty area.
  • Operates mechanical and electrical equipment within specialty area according to manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Demonstrates intra-operative handling of sterile equipment and supplies.
  • Checks function of basic and specialty equipment.
Qualifications:

Education/Training
High school diploma or equivalent.


Licensure/Certification
Maintains BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.


Experience

One year recent experience as a PSA II; or currently enrolled in or completed a Nursing, Surgical Tech or Medical Program.
