Summary
Under the supervision of the Perioperative Clinical Supervisor, the Perioperative Resource Assistant is a vital clinical team member who supports surgical operations through expert coordination of surgical instruments, equipment, and specialized positioning devices. Requires a deep understanding of perioperative workflows, sterile technique, and surgical support functions to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. Demands strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-acuity surgical environment.
General Responsibilities: Monitors equipment functionality and coordinate with biomedical services for timely maintenance and repairs. Supports perioperative staff in locating, transporting, and setting up complex equipment and positioning systems. Maintains accurate documentation of equipment usage, supply levels, and restocking needs to support operational continuity. Independently removes patient cast.
Operating Room Department Role Specific: Collaborates closely with surgical and sterile processing teams to ensure timely availability and delivery of surgical instruments and equipment. Prepares operating rooms with appropriate supplies, instrumentation, and specialty equipment for scheduled procedures. Tracks, manages, and restocks surgical case carts, specialty trays, and inventory to maintain readiness and efficiency. Assists with operating room turnover between cases, including opening sterile supplies, setup and removal of specialty equipment. Scrubs in using sterile technique to assist with surgical procedures, including retraction and the use of specialty patient positioning devices and equipment.
Education
Must be a high school graduate or the equivalent GED.
Licensure/Certification
Must have CPR certification.
Experience
At least one year experience in health care setting preferred.
Other Qualifications
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of general computer skills and applications. Demonstrate ability to multi-task and work independently using critical thinking skills. Must be able to lift 50 pounds; 100 pounds shared lifting; push 200 pounds.
