Who Will I be Working With?

Permit Technicians (Engineering Technicians) on the Commercial Permitting Team will be working with Contractors, Engineers, Architects, Owners, Inspectors, Plan Review Staff, and other Agencies on most Commercial projects within Mecklenburg County. Interactions will be in person or via phone, e-mail, or text.

What Will I Be Doing?

Permit issuance; answering telephones and responding to emails to provide information to customers; staffing service points that require in-person interactions; scanning paper documents; issuance of temporary certificates of occupancy and certificates of occupancy; other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Perform paraprofessional work in support of engineering or project management activities. This position,

under direct supervision, is responsible for gathering and collecting technical data; surveying; conducting

field work; reviewing construction plans for codes and regulations; providing information to developers; and, collecting monies.

Essential Functions

As applicable, provide front office support, which may include: answering telephones and

providing information to callers; periodically staffing service points that require in-person

interactions with customers or staff; and/or, performing other related activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in the area of assignment

Education:

Associate''s degree in Engineering, Construction, or Surveying

Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?: Yes

Licenses and Certifications

May require a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver''s License

May require County Driving Privileges

Annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check required, depending upon the area of assignment.
