Position Summary
The City of Dania Beach is committed to employing a talented and diverse workforce. We are currently seeking a Coordinator II, Permitting, to join our dynamic Community Development Team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing and processing building permits, contractors licensing, and inspection requests in compliance with established regulatory standards. Incumbents in this classification have previous experience in permitting and licensing activities, work closely with contractors and owners/builders in the receipt, review, processing, and approval of permitting and licensing activities. Work requires the application and knowledge of Citys Policies and procedures. Independent action is exercised in the deposition of routine work matters, giving information, receiving inquiries and complaints, and other public contact work. Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides assistance to staff, contractors and owners in the technical aspects of the permitting and licensing process; ensures completion, accuracy, and comprehensive documentation for all fees charged and issued permits and licenses; coordinates final inspections.
- Receives, date stamps, reviews and processes various building construction and contractor's licensing permits and applications.
- Compiles and reviews supporting documentation and reference data for permitting and approval purposes, e.g., contractor licensing, certifications of insurance, workers' compensation; issues/removes holds on contractor files based on compliance with contractor requirements.
- Responds to a wide variety of inquiries regarding building, construction, licensing, and permitting functions and requirements, e.g., certifications of occupancy, notice of commencements, fees, charges, and inspection requirements.
- Processes approved permits in compliance with established regulatory standards; provides direction for resolution of non-compliance issues.
- Provides prompt, courteous service and assistance in the processing and completion of permitting activities.
- Performs accounting tasks in receipt, processing, and recording of transaction fees and charges; ensure accurate daily balancing and forwards records and funds to accounting.
- Performs records and file maintenance duties, e.g., contractor files, inspection logs, issued permits, fees charged, outstanding fees, and flood elevations.
- Performs follow up and research as needed to complete missing and inaccurate documentation, e.g., legal descriptions, folio numbers, proper addresses, expiration dates.
- Coordinates timely production of monthly reports as required for effective department operations.
- Responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints from the public; provides resolution or directs to the appropriate department/entity.
- Processes requests for Certificate of Occupancy (CO), Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO) and Certificate of Completions (CC) by checking for outstanding inspections and any other requirements; coordinates inspections with other City departments and any outside agencies.
- Maintains Land Management files such as address, owner name and folio number in permitting software system
- Attends Pre-Construction meetings for the Building Department.
Qualifications
Whats required: (Minimum Requirements)
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in construction permitting and licensing functions.
- Notary Public license or willingness to obtain license within one (1) year.
