What You'll Do In This Role:
The Personal Care Attendant (PCA) is a versatile caregiver who provides compassionate, person-centered support to adults age 55 and older in an Adult Foster Care setting. This role assists with personal care, medications, meals, housekeeping, and life enrichment activities while helping maintain a safe, home-like environment. The PCA supports participants in achieving the highest level of independence, dignity, and quality of life through everyday care and connection.
Key Responsibilities
Participant Care & Support
- Provide direct personal care in accordance with individualized care plans, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and mobility support
- Support participant comfort, dignity, independence, and overall well-being
- Maintain a safe environment through appropriate supervision and assistance
Medication Administration Support
- Administer medications as trained and directed
- Accurately complete required documentation in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards
Daily Living & Household Services
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized home environment, including bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and common areas
- Complete routine housekeeping tasks such as cleaning, sanitizing, and waste disposal
- Provide laundry services for participants and household linens
Meal Services & Nutrition
- Prepare and serve nutritious meals in accordance with dietary needs
- Assist participants with eating as needed and provide dining supervision
- Ensure proper food storage, labeling, and kitchen cleanliness
Life Enrichment & Engagement
- Support and facilitate meaningful, age-appropriate activities that promote socialization, independence, and quality of life
- Encourage participation and engagement based on individual preferences and abilities
Team Collaboration & Communication
- Communicate effectively with team members regarding participant needs, changes, and concerns
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (IDT) to support care plan implementation
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete accurate and timely documentation of care and observations
- Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain reliable attendance, including weekends and holidays as scheduled
- Participate in required training and team meetings
- Provide excellent customer service by fostering a respectful, home-like environment that honors participant preferences

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Current Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification in the State of Michigan from an accredited program preferred
- 1-3 year of experience working with the frail elderly, long-term care population, or individuals receiving end-of-life care required
- Current CPR certification or willing to obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.
- Physical ability to assist with participant transfers, mobility, and activities of daily living (ADLs).
- Reliable transportation
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, compassion, professionalism, and high ethical standards when working with participants, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Work independently and collaboratively with flexibility, integrity, and strong problem-solving abilities in a dynamic environment.
