We’re looking for a Personal Care Assistant to join our Bonita Villa Senior Living team!
We are looking for a compassionate, dependable, and resident-focused Personal Care Assistant (PCA) to provide high-quality care and support to our residents. This role is responsible for assisting residents with activities of daily living while promoting dignity, independence, comfort, and safety in accordance with each resident's individualized care plan.
Position Summary
The Personal Care Assistant provides direct resident care that meets or exceeds community standards while supporting residents' physical, emotional, and social well-being. This position works collaboratively with the Resident Services team to ensure residents receive compassionate, respectful, and individualized care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Resident Care
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including:
- Bathing and showering
- Grooming and personal hygiene
- Oral care
- Dressing
- Toileting and continence care
- Mobility and transfers
- Ambulation assistance
- Provide reminders and assistance according to each resident's service plan.
- Safely lift, transfer, reposition, and assist residents using proper body mechanics and approved equipment.
- Assist residents with meals, including meal setup, serving, encouragement, and monitoring food and fluid intake.
- Observe and promptly report changes in residents' physical, emotional, or cognitive condition, including skin concerns, bruising, mobility changes, appetite, or behavioral changes.
- Document resident care accurately and timely using approved charting procedures.
- Conduct resident rounds according to care plans and community policy.
Resident Engagement
- Encourage residents to participate in social, recreational, and wellness activities.
- Assist with planned activities and help residents develop positive relationships within the community.
- Respond promptly and courteously to resident requests, emergency call systems, telephone calls, and family inquiries.
Safety & Housekeeping
- Maintain clean, safe, and comfortable resident living areas, including:
- Bedrooms
- Bathrooms
- Dining areas
- Common spaces
- Laundry
- Kitchen areas (as assigned)
- Identify and promptly correct environmental hazards.
- Follow all infection prevention, universal precautions, and community safety procedures.
- Respond appropriately during emergency situations by following established emergency protocols.
- Report all resident incidents, accidents, or injuries immediately to the Resident Services Director or Supervisor and complete required documentation.
Team Support
- Support the community's mission, vision, and values through professional communication and teamwork.
- Build positive relationships with residents, families, physicians, pharmacies, vendors, and fellow team members.
- Demonstrate flexibility by assisting in other resident care roles, including laundry, housekeeping, dishwashing, and dietary support when needed.
- Attend required meetings and in-service training.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

- Report any suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, or misappropriation of resident property immediately, in accordance with community policy and state regulations.
- Perform duties within the scope of certification and under the direction of licensed nursing staff, when applicable.
- Remain awake and alert throughout the assigned shift, as required by state regulations.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous caregiving experience in an assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, or similar healthcare setting preferred.
- Current First Aid certification.
- Current CPR certification, as required by state regulations.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Caregiver Certification, or other state-required certifications, depending on state licensing requirements.
- Ability to maintain required continuing education and certifications.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and observation skills.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
The employee must be able to:
- Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach frequently throughout the workday.
- Lift, transfer, and reposition residents using proper body mechanics and approved lifting equipment.
- Push or pull up to 50 pounds. Lifting more than 50 pounds requires assistance from another staff member or the use of approved transfer equipment such as gait belts, Hoyer lifts, or transfer boards.
- Maintain mental alertness, concentration, and sound judgment throughout the shift.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and team members.
- Possess close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Move freely throughout the community and respond quickly during emergencies.

Working Conditions
- Must be available to work scheduled shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Work is performed in a residential healthcare environment with moderate to occasionally high noise levels.
- May be exposed to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, cleaning chemicals, and other healthcare-related hazards while following established infection control and safety procedures.
