Right at Home West LA based in Santa Monica is looking for a dedicated, reliable, compassionate Personal Care Assistant with PureWick experience to work with a lovely couple in Santa Moinca CA.
Job Title: Evening Caregiver for Couples Care (ALS Support & PureWick Experience Required)Location: Santa Monica, CA
Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday | 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM (24 hours/week)
Pay Rate:$23.00 – $26.00 per hour (this shift only-- all others are based on experience/driving/availability).
Position Type:Non-driving position (No driving or vehicle required for care)
Job Description:We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and experienced caregiver to provide evening care for a lovely couple in Santa Monica. The primary focus is supporting a 91-year-old male client living with ALS. He is in a weakened state, experiences left-sided weakness, and is a high fall risk. He requires dedicated standby assistance to remain safe, comfortable, and as independent as possible in his home.
Please note: The client has a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) order in place, which must be respected. There is also a camera in the apartment used by the family for safety and monitoring purposes.Key Responsibilities:- Mobility & Transfer Support: Provide strict standby assistance and supervision for all mobility, ambulation, and transfers (in/out of bed and chairs) due to a high fall risk.
- PureWick System Management: Assist with the proper application, positioning, and setup of the PureWick external catheter system at bedtime (before leaving at 10 PM). Maintain proper hygiene, provide skin care, and monitor for skin irritation.
- Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Assist with evening routines including dressing, grooming, personal hygiene, toileting, and bathing support as needed.
- Meal Prep & Meds: Prepare evening meals, assist with feeding if needed, and provide timely medication reminders.
- Safety & Environment: Keep walkways clear of obstacles, encourage the use of mobility aids, and maintain a clean, safe living environment.
- Companionship: Provide emotional support and warm companionship to both the client and his partner.
Compliance & Hiring Requirements:- Active California Home Care Aide (HCA) registration/license
- Recent negative TB test documentation
- Current CPR Certification
Qualifications:- Must have hands-on experience with the PureWick External Catheter system.
- Proven experience caring for clients with ALS, progressive neurological conditions, or high fall risks.
- Ability to provide gentle, respectful care while promoting the client's dignity and independence.
- Strong communication skills to report changes in strength, cognition, or equipment status to the family.
- Must respect and honor the client's DNR status.
