QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior experience as a personal injury paralegal or litigation paralegal preferred
  • Knowledge of Michigan court procedures, filing requirements, and litigation processes preferred
  • Experience preparing and filing legal documents, including complaints, motions, discovery requests, and subpoenas
  • Familiarity with personal injury case management, including medical records, insurance claims, and litigation deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate professionally and compassionately with clients, attorneys, court personnel, medical providers, and insurance representatives
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation and case management
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating closely with attorneys and staff
    Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Experience with electronic filing systems and legal case management software preferred
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally
    Strong problem-solving and time-management skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced legal environment
  • Associate’s degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent legal experience preferred
    Notary Public certification is a plus, but not required
  • Experience obtaining and organizing medical records and related litigation documents preferred
  • Professional demeanor and strong client service orientation required
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work directly with attorneys to support all phases of personal injury litigation
  • Prepare, draft, and file legal documents including complaints, summonses, motions, affidavits, subpoenas, and discovery requests/responses
  • Initiate lawsuits and ensure timely filing of all court-required documents
  • Maintain litigation calendars and monitor deadlines for filings, hearings, discovery, and case milestones
  • Coordinate service of process and communicate with courts, opposing counsel, insurance companies, and medical providers
  • Communicate regularly with clients regarding case status, treatment updates, appointments, and required documentation
  • Obtain, review, organize, and summarize medical records, medical bills, wage loss documentation, insurance information, and other evidentiary materials
  • Prepare case files and exhibits for depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trial
    Assist attorneys with discovery management, including interrogatories, requests for production, and document organization
  • Track and manage incoming case-related correspondence, records, and pleadings
    Maintain accurate electronic and physical case files
  • Request and follow up on police reports, medical records, liens, and employment records
  • Coordinate scheduling for depositions, hearings, independent medical examinations, and client meetings
  • Ensure compliance with court rules, filing procedures, and firm policies
  • Provide administrative and litigation support to attorneys as needed
    Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and strong client service throughout all client interactions

The purpose of this position is to assist the attorneys in the preparation, filing, and management of personal injury lawsuits while serving as a key point of coordination between the firm, clients, medical providers, courts, and other parties involved in litigation. The paralegal will work directly with attorneys to initiate complaints, prepare and file required court documents, maintain litigation deadlines, and organize case materials necessary to support each matter.

This role is critical to the firm’s overall success because it helps ensure that cases progress efficiently, filings are completed accurately and on time, and clients remain informed and supported throughout the litigation process. The Personal Injury Paralegal also plays an essential role in gathering and organizing medical records, bills, insurance information, and other supporting documentation needed to build and advance each client’s case. By managing these operational and procedural responsibilities, the paralegal allows attorneys to focus on legal strategy, negotiation, and courtroom advocacy while maintaining the firm’s commitment to responsive and effective client representation.
